Sudden Unexpected Infant Death
A word about bed-sharing: Though this is a somewhat controversial topic, there is sufficient evidence to show that parents sharing beds with their infants unwittingly endanger their babies in several different ways. Rates of accidental suffocation and strangulation in bed have tripled in the last decade and it is suspected that co-bedding practices are responsible for this statistical leap, especially when more than one adult is in the bed and/or the adult(s) have consumed alcohol or are overly-tired. There is also a correlation between the amount of time a child co-beds and SIDS risk, with risk growing substantially the longer the child sleeps with an adult. A SIDS task force assembled by the American Academy of Pediatrics and Sudden Infant Death Services of Illinois, Inc do not recommend bed-sharing for infants
