UNIT I - GENERAL PROVISIONS

D. Terminology (705 ILCS 405/1-3), continued:

6. Chronic Truant (4.1): Chronic truant, as used in the Act, is the same definition found in section 26-2 of the School Code. A Chronic truant is a student who is absent from school without the consent of the school or parent and is considered truant from that school for more than 5 percent of required session school days.

The Act contains no other provisions for dealing with a Truant Minor unless the minor meets the definition of a Chronic Truant. It is up to the county/city/village to establish an ordinance that deals with a Truant Minor.

7. Court (5): The circuit court in a session or division designed to hear proceedings under the Juvenile Court Act.

8. Disposition Hearing (6): A hearing to determine whether a minor should be adjudged to be a ward of the court and to determine what order of disposition should be made in respect to a minor adjudged to be a ward of the court. In the adult system this would be called a Sentencing Hearing.
