C. Terminology (705 ILCS 405/5-105)

Specific terminology is used in the Illinois Juvenile Court Act. Students should be able to define and use the words contained in the Act correctly. Many of these terms are used in the adult criminal court system. Furthermore, they should be able to apply the concepts outlined in the following definitions as they relate to Article 5:

    1. Court (1): The circuit court in a session or division assigned to hear proceedings under this Act.

    2. Community service (2): Uncompensated labor for a community service agency.

    3. Community service agency (2.5): A not-for-profit organization, community organization, church, charitable organization, individual, public office, or other public body.

    4. Delinquent minor (3): Any minor who prior to his or her 18th birthday has violated or attempted to violate a State of Illinois statute, county or municipal/local ordinance.
