Child Neglect
Indicators of neglect can be present in the behaviors, appearances, and attitudes of both the neglectful parent and the neglected child. An adult who is neglectful may be:
- Indifferent to her child or children
- Apathetic or depressed about life in general
- Behave irrationally or in a bizarre manner
- Abuse alcohol or drugs
- Deny the existence of the child
- Blame the child for causing his or her own problems
- Extreme in his thinking about his children and believe they are wholly burdensome and/or worthless
- Depending upon the child to provide them with care, attention, and emotional support
