Child Neglect

Indicators of neglect can be present in the behaviors, appearances, and attitudes of both the neglectful parent and the neglected child. An adult who is neglectful may be:

  1. Indifferent to her child or children

  2. Apathetic or depressed about life in general

  3. Behave irrationally or in a bizarre manner

  4. Abuse alcohol or drugs

  5. Deny the existence of the child

  6. Blame the child for causing his or her own problems

  7. Extreme in his thinking about his children and believe they are wholly burdensome and/or worthless

  8. Depending upon the child to provide them with care, attention, and emotional support
