Child Neglect
Children who are neglected will:
- Wear dirty or ill-fitting clothing that needs to be repaired
- Be inadequately or inappropriately dressed for the weather
- Be very hungry and attempt to hoard, steal, or beg for food
- Appear listless and tired
- Be required to provide care to their younger siblings
- Appear unkempt with dirty teeth, hair, body odor, etc…
- Appear emaciated or have distended stomachs
- Have medical or dental problems that have not been addressed
- Say that there is no one at home taking care of them
- Frequently miss school
- Be smaller than their peers because of malnutrition and “failure to thrive”
- Be more passive, withdrawn, and indiscriminate in their social interactions
- Be less affectionate
