Child Neglect

Children who are neglected will:

  1. Wear dirty or ill-fitting clothing that needs to be repaired

  2. Be inadequately or inappropriately dressed for the weather

  3. Be very hungry and attempt to hoard, steal, or beg for food

  4. Appear listless and tired

  5. Be required to provide care to their younger siblings

  6. Appear unkempt with dirty teeth, hair, body odor, etc…

  7. Appear emaciated or have distended stomachs

  8. Have medical or dental problems that have not been addressed

  9. Say that there is no one at home taking care of them

  10. Frequently miss school

  11. Be smaller than their peers because of malnutrition and “failure to thrive”

  12. Be more passive, withdrawn, and indiscriminate in their social interactions

  13. Be less affectionate
